WZPA-LD channel 33 is a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania independent commercial digital low power (LPTV) television station broadcasting on UHF 33 with broadcast range Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and its closer suburbs, part of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania TV market area.

WZPA-LD city of license is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with transmitter located within Roxborough, Philadelphia antenna farm. WZPA-LD is owned by Mako Communications, LLC of Corpus Christi, Texas since October 2, 2006.[9][10]

History

Before the first license was granted the FCC granted numerous construction permits and CP extensions with city of license Camden, New Jersey:

On August 4, 1998 FCC issued new station JF0415DX call signs W33BT and W68CV.[8]

On April 1, 1999 William E. Mattis, Jr. sold construction permit to Mediacasting LLC of Greenville, Delaware.[23][24]

On March 28, 2000 FCC granted W33BT license for ERP 20.3 kW at 40°04′59″N 75°10′56″W / 40.08306°N 75.18222°W / 40.08306; -75.18222 (W33BT).[25][26]

Between November 6, 2003 and May–August 2004 W33BT was silent.[27][28][29]

On April 4, 2005 W33BT granted construction permit for ERP 150 kW channel 33 at 40°05′00″N 75°10′47″W / 40.08333°N 75.17972°W / 40.08333; -75.17972 (W33BT) with city of license Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[30][31] October 31, 2006 WXSI-LP granted modification to locate at 40°02′29.6″N 75°14′11.5″W / 40.041556°N 75.236528°W / 40.041556; -75.236528 (WXSI-LP).[32][33] January 9, 2007 WXSI-LP granted modification.[34][35]

On April 28, 2005 W33BT call sign changed to WXSI-LP.[8]

On July 20, 2006 WXSI-LP was granted a STA to operate at ERP 1.5 kW, because transmitter broke down and using a replacement.[36][37]

On October 2, 2006 Mediacasting LLC of Greenville, Delaware sold WXSI-LP to Mako Communications, LLC of Corpus Christi, Texas.[9][10]

Between December 7, 2006 – January 3, 2007 WXSI-LP went silent after terminated its lease and completion of construction permit at Roxborough, Philadelphia antenna farm.[38][39][40]

On February 19, 2007 WXSI-LP call sign changed to WZPA-LP.[8]

Between July 1, 2009 – October 10, 2009 WZPA-LP was silent when lost its network affiliation.[41][42][43]

On October 8, 2010 WZPA-LP analog transmission ceased to convert to digital.[5][6][44][45]

About June 18, 2012 WZPA began digital television programming with four 480i virtual channels, while subchannel 33.1 CUBANA without programming. On June 19, 2012 WZPA added fifth 480i subchannel 33.5 UVM with Azecta programming.

On June 30, 2012 subchannel 33.1 CUBANA began Cubana de Television programming.

On July 16, 2012 WZPA-LP call sign changed to WZPA-LD.[8]

On October 2, 2012 added sixth 480i subchannel 33.6 PeaceTV with color bars and October 3, 2012 began Peace TV programming.

About February 24, 2013 added seventh 480i subchannel 33.7 UVM with Azteca America programming.

Sometime between February 28, 2013–March 20, 2013 subchannel 33.1 became QVC programming.

Sometime between March 20, 2013–March 28, 2013 subchannel 33.5 became color bars.

In June 2013, WZPA-LD was sold to Landover 5 LLC as part of a larger deal involving 51 other low-power television stations.[46]
