"Waiting Game" is a single released in 2013 by Banks. It charted at #99 on the UK Singles Chart in January 2014 after being featured in a Victoria's Secret commercial and is featured on her 2014 album Goddess.

Background

The song was released in 2013 on her second EP, London. Although it was never released as a single, in December 2013 the song was featured in a Victoria's Secret commercial,[1] and in January 2014 charted at #99 on the UK Singles Chart[2] and at #16 on the US Alternative Songs chart.[3] The song describes a long-distance relationship.[4]

Music video

A music video was produced for the song released in August 2013. It was produced by Francesco Carrozzini.[5]

In popular culture

In July 2014, Neon Jungle released a cover version of the song on their album Welcome to the Jungle. Banks posted a diatribe to her Facebook wall in response, saying she was "shocked" to see the song on their album, describing the song as "my own heartbeats" and having been "born from my real life, my real heartache, my real fingertips when I was at one of the most confusing times in my life".[6] The song would later appear on her album, Goddess, released in September 2014.[7]

Banks premiered the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live as a mashup with "Beggin for Thread".[8] It would later be featured in series 1 episode 7 of Reckless, series 11 episode 3 of Grey's Anatomy, series 3 episode 1 of Mistresses, series 1 episode 7 of Power, series 1 episode 4 of The Originals (TV series) and in the deluxe edition of the soundtrack for Divergent.[9] Now it is also on the soundtrack for 50 shades of grey

Critical reception

The Guardian described it as "essentially, a [young-adult] novel distilled in song [which] throbs with yearning and lust over evocative drums and static".[10]
