The Walhalla–Winkler Border Crossing connects the towns of Walhalla, North Dakota and Winkler, Manitoba. Both Walhalla and Winkler had grown to roughly 1400 residents by 1950, but while Walhalla's population has retracted to roughly 1,000 residents today,[1] Winkler has seen its population explode to about 12,000 residents.[2]
In 2012, the US replaced the Walhalla border station it built in 1962. Canada's border station at Winkler was built in 1968, and is slated to be replaced in 2017.[3]
