Walter Butler of Polestown

Walter Butler of Polestown was the second son of Sir Edmund MacRichard Butler. [1] His nephew Piers would become the 8th Earl of Ormond.[2]

Children and Ancestry

The family of his son Peter would go on to found the "Roscrea" cadet branch of the family. The family of his son Richard would be created baronets of the "Polestown" cadet branch of the family.

  • Walter FitzEdmond Butler, the eldest son, who succeeded at Polestown, had three children
  • Sir Richard his heir;
  • Thomas of Clonmore in County Carlow,
  • a daughter Joan.
  • Peter, the second son, was of Roscrea, and by his wife Catherine de Burgo, had three sons, who all died without any children of their own
