Walters & Cohen

Walters & Cohen is an architectural practice based in London, England. The practice's completed work includes public and private buildings, educational, commercial, housing and cultural projects.

The practice was founded by Cindy Walters and Michál Cohen in 1994 and employs architectural staff from around the world and practice has received attention for the high percentage of female staff. Cindy Walters and Michál Cohen jointly received the Architects' Journal inaugural Woman Architect of the Year Award in 2012 The judges cited the "consistent quality of their architecture, combined with the ethos of the practice," remarking upon their "active involvement with the RIBA and in teaching and examining at architecture schools". At the time of the award, 70% of the practice's architectural staff were women.[1] In 2012 the practice won in three categories at the BCSE awards (British Council for School Environments). As well as winning the Jonathan Ibikunle School Architect of the Year Award, three of the practice's schools also won awards: Elm Park Primary School, Hylands Primary School and Colston's Girls' School.[2] In 2008 the firm's design for Cotham School, a Wave 4 BSF (Building Schools for the Future) school in Bristol, was rated excellent by CABE, one of only two built schemes to be awarded top marks by the design watchdog.[3]
