Warstones Wanderers F.C.

Warstones Wanderers F.C. are an association football club based in Wolverhampton. For the 2013-14 season they are members of the West Midlands (Regional) League Division Two. Home games are played at Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton.

Club history

Warstones Wanderers were formed in 2001 with just one under 10s side playing in tournaments and the Bilston League. The following season there were 6 junior sides and by the third season this had grown to 13. The following year saw a big growth in the number of junior sides Warstones had, rising to 23. The 2006/07 season saw the first girls side established, playing an under 16s side. This season sees Warstones Wanderers putting out 25 different teams, this includes 22 in the youth section, under 7s to under 15s and one under 17s girls side.

Warstones also have two Sunday league sides playing senior football as well as the senior side in the West Midlands (Regional) League.

The first Saturday senior side was established at the start of the 2005/06 season joining the Wolverhampton & District Combination. The following season the jump was made to the West Midlands League, playing in Division Two. Home games were played at Parkfields Stadium and a 7th position in the league was achieved. The West Midlands League increased the number of sides in Division One for this season and Warstones Wanderers were moved up to Division One as a result.

At the beginning of the 2007/08 season Shane Samuels took over the role of manager and soon put together a new squad of young players. The quality of the squad was seen when Warstones Wanderers won the West Midlands (Regional) League Division One team of the month award for February 2008. Home games were played at Long Lane Park, the former home of Wyrley Rangers, after spending the first couple of months of the season homeless.

Once again Wanderers finished in 7th place but this time a division higher. Also of note during this season was on 25 March 2008 when Jimmy Corcoran made his debut for the Warstones Wanderers first team and became the first player to come through the ranks of the junior set up.

The 2008/09 season saw Warstones Wanderers move home again, this time moving in with Sporting Khalsa at the Abbey Stadium. The club took further steps forward by entering a reserve side in Division Two of the West Midlands (Regional) League, playing at Four Ashes, the former home of Wolverhampton Development and entering the FA Vase for the first time.

Warstones recorded a victory in their first ever FA Vase game, winning on penalties away at Midland Alliance side Cradley Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round, goalkeeper Andrew Aston proving to be the hero saving, 4 out of 5 spot kicks in the shootout. Shortly before the Vase tie manager Shane Samuels resigned his position and his former assistant Delroy Williams was promoted into the first team manager's role. Since then he has left his position & Ashley Cook has been at the helm since early November 2008.

After a poor run of results he was relieved of his position as manager during January 2010.(During this season Warstones ground shared at Cradley Town FC.

The new management duo of Rob Walters & John Marlow have been at the club since then & have formed a great partnership to turn Warstones future around.
