Waterparks is an American pop punk band formed in Houston, Texas in 2011.[4] The group currently consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Awsten Knight, backing vocalist and guitarist Geoff Wigington, and drummer Otto Wood.[4]
The band has released three EPs, two of which were released independently with one released via Equal Vision.
History
Formation and early recordings (2011–15)
The band was formed in 2011 by Awsten Knight and Gage Matthieu, both of whom met while both were in other bands.[5][4] The group's first show was on August 17, 2012 at Warehouse Live in Houston[6] with Invent, Animate, DWHB, and Life as Lions;[7] the band continued performing at local venues throughout Texas over the following years.[4] The band performed as a supporting act for pop musician Aaron Carter on his Houston tour date in 2013.[4][8] The band also performed on the Houston dates of the Warped Tour in 2013[9] and 2015.[10]
Signing (2016–present)
On November 6, 2015, the band signed with Equal Vision Records.[3] After searching for producers, the band became managed by Benji Madden and Joel Madden.[11][12] On released January 15, 2016, the group released an EP titled Cluster, which was co-produced by Benji Madden.[13][14] On November 19, 2015, the band performed with Good Charlotte during the group's comeback performance at The Troubadour in West Hollywood, California.[15]
The group performed on the Black Cat Tour supporting Never Shout Never in 2016.[16] The band is set to perform on every date of the 2016 Warped Tour.[17][18]
Musical style and influences
Musically, the band is characterized as pop punk.[1] The sound of the band has been influenced by Sum 41, Blink-182, Good Charlotte, and Green Day.[6]
