Waverley Christian College is an inter-denominational and co-educational independent Christian school with the main campus in the outer Eastern Melbourne suburb of Wantirna South and an additional campus which opened in Narre Warren South in 2012. The Wantirna South campus is located on the same property as CityLife Church, alongside the Eastlink Tollway with exits on High Street Road.

The school has grown enormously since its beginning over 30 years ago, where it had only a handful of students and a couple of teachers. There are still members of the school faculty that were there in 1978. The school has now reached maximum enrolments at the Wantirna South campus.

History

Originally established in 1978 as Parkmore Full Gospel College by Parkmore Full Gospel Church, the church and its school merged with Waverley Christian Fellowship (now CityLife Church) in 1983. The College and Church were moved to their present site in Wantirna South in 1989.

The College has more than 1350 students, with over 550 in Primary and more than 450 in the Secondary School at Wantirna South Campus and approximately 150 Prep to Year 7 students at the Narre Warren South Campus. The College has a great academic record, always achieving highly in VCE scores.

The College is set up as a ministry of CityLife Church in Knox City, a large, local charismatic Megachurch with more than 7000 attendees.

Principals

The College has had three Principals in its history, those being:

Houses

The College has a four "House" system. The Houses are used mainly for sporting/music and drama events.

Site Redevelopment

Over the last decade, more than $7 Million has been spent on improving the school's facilities. Due to clever managing and the assistance of the Australian Government, the school is currently in only $1,500,000 of debt. New buildings over the last decade include:

For large school productions, presentation nights and chapel services, the school uses the state-of-art main auditorium at CityLife Church which is on the same property and has a capacity of 2000 people.

The school has recently completed construction of a new Performing Arts Center in mid-2010, which seats approximately 300 people and can be used for smaller productions and rehearsals, as well as small school functions and events (such as information nights for new students and/or students going into a new year level). The first concerts were the Secondary production of The Sound of Music and the Year 4 Concert First Fleet.

Narre Warren South Campus in 2012

Waverley Christian College opened a brand new campus in Narre Warren South opening at the start of 2012. It caters for Prep to Year 9. In future years, they will progressively introduce Year 12. [1][2]Right now they are waiting for a gymnasium to be finished and an intersection to be built.
