The Welsh Blood Service is a division of Velindre NHS Trust responsible for the collection of blood in South and Mid-Wales, and of the distribution of blood products to hospitals in that area of the country.[1] NHS Blood and Transplant, based in England, collects and distributes blood in North Wales, although in 2012 the Welsh Government unveiled plans to introduce a single blood service for the country by 2016.[2] The new combined service, to be known as the "All-Wales Blood Service", is due to launch in May 2016.[3]
