Wes Hampton (born December 8, 1977) is a Christian music singer. He is a tenor for The Gaither Vocal Band. Hampton sang first tenor for the group from 2005 to 2009, then when it went from a quartet to a quintet, he became the second tenor.[1] He also performs solo concerts.

Early life

Hampton was born in Memphis, Tennessee.[2] He studied at Trevecca Nazarene University from 1996 to 1998, and he then went on to receive a B.A. in psychology and a minor in music from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, in 2000.[3] He was part of the worship staff of a Birmingham church for seven years.

Career

Hampton was also a member of a group called the Trevadores during his years at Trevecca, for whom he sang lead. He joined the Gaither Vocal Band following the departure of David Phelps in 2005. [4] The group formation then consisted of Hampton, Guy Penrod, Marshall Hall, and Bill Gaither. His first recording with them was the album Give it Away released in 2007. They then released the albums Christmas Gaither Vocal Band Style and Lovin' Life in 2008. As of early-2014, the line-up is David Phelps (1st tenor), Hampton (2nd tenor), Adam Crabb (lead), Todd Suttles (baritone), and Gaither (bass).

He also received an award from Singing News in 2006, the Singing News Horizon Individual Fan Award.[5]
