Westwood Junior High School is a public junior high school, part of the Richardson Independent School District, located at 7630 Arapaho Road in Dallas.[1] Westwood is the Math, Science, and Leadership magnet. The school contains the 7th and 8th grade with a 652 total enrollment. It is one of the 2 Magnet Junior High Schools in RISD, the other of which is West, the visual arts and technology magnet.[2] Recently a health magnet has also been added to Westwood.

Leadership
Westwood's Leadership program is run by Katie Showalter. There are two forms of this class, both of which earn 1 elective credit in 7th grade, and .5 elective credits along with the .5 required Speech credit in 8th grade. There is also a 0 hour option that allows student to take an 8th period before school. Seventh Grade is taught by Tony Huynh and Eighth Grade is taught by Katie Showalter This Magnet was formerly run by Dr. Karen Karinja

Science
Integrated Health Sciences
This is an in depth course pertaining to medical terminology and general biology headed in whole by Mr.Todd Haney. It is a one year class that provides the required 0.5 high school credit for Health.
TAKS scores
The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills is a state regulated aptitude test that measures the quality of schools. Westwood's above average scores are what have assisted it in becoming Exemplary.

Awards
Westwood Junior High School was named a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels, especially among disadvantaged students.[3]

There are many clubs at Westwood. This includes AVID taught by Cindy Edwards,Satako Neese, and Katie Showalter, NJHS facilitated by Kimber Arlington, and Beta Club facilitated by Katie Showalter Yearbook staff facilitated by Lynley Garner, and library and office aides which may fill an elective spot if it is needed.
