What So Not is an electronic music project by Australian producer Emoh Instead (Chris Emerson). The project was formerly a duo with producer Flume (Harley Edward Streten).
History
On 13 November 2011, the duo released their debut EP 7 Dollar Bill. During this time, they had released several remixes of artists such as Peking Duk, Tom Piper, and Major Lazer, as well as several singles of their own. In early 2013, they embarked on the Massive Universe Tour, in several venues across Australia. In 28 May, they had released their second EP The Quack, featuring a collaboration with Action Bronson.
The band released the song Jaguar on December 6, 2013.[1][2]
On 21 February 2015, Flume announced via What So Not's Facebook page that he would be leaving the group.[3]
On 9 May 2015, the debut single Gemini, from the EP of the same name, peaked at number 52 on the Australian singles chart.[4] The lead and title track features Sydney-based singer and producer George Maple.
In November 2015, What So Not, Baauer & George Maple co-produced a track for Australian hip-hop artist Tkay Maidza titled "Ghost". The song was premiered on Triple J.
On December 9, 2015 it was announced that the Gemini EP would be released on December 18.
Personal life
In February 2014, Emerson began dating fellow Future Classic artist, George Maple (Jessica Higgs). Maple has since appeared at several What So Not shows as a guest performer, mainly for the track "Gemini", which features her.
