Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim

The Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim is an annual open water swimming event held each November on Whitehaven Beach Queensland.

It is open to solo swimmers aged 14 years and over. It is Australia's newest Ocean Swimming Race. The distance is 2 kilometres, with a 750m smaller distance for more amateur swimmers. The Whitehaven Beach Ocean Swim began in 2009 as part of the Hamilton Island Triathlon carnival. The first event was held with 116 competitors which was won by Australian Olympian and renowned Open Water Swimmer Ky Hurst[1] and Best Job in The World - Island Caretaker Ben Southall.[2] The 2010 event grew to 149 competitors and included notable world class triathlete Miles Stewart.[3][4]
