Charitable work
With a history of appealing to a college-aged demographic, yet producing side projects for several charities and child-friendly projects, Peyton has earned a reputation of possessing a very versatile rap style. In 2010, Whitney, along with four other Philadelphia artists were cast to be part of the "Unlitter Us" campaign and appear in TV commercials airing on major networks performing spoken-word pieces about the importance of keeping Philadelphia clean.[11] Together the five artists also appeared in print and transportation ads on buses and billboards, and were seen alongside Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter at anti-litter rallies, inner-city Schools, and other community events.[12] Whitney (whose mother is diabetic) has also been seen donating her time to perform at numerous Diabetes fundraisers, concerts benefiting Autism Awareness, Cancer research, and anti-bullying events (in relation to the All About bullies...Big and Small project she was part of that released in October 2011).[13][14]
Touring History
Known for doing spot dates all over the nation, Whitney Peyton finally set out on her first ever routed Tour as a supporting act for hip-hop duo Twiztid in September 2013 for the Canadian dates of their AbominationZ Tour which also included Blaze Ya Dead Homie. Directly after the short Canadian run ended Whitney participated in a full 40-date US tour with rap legend R.A. The Rugged Man and Potluck (group) entitled the "Rugged and Raw Tour" from October–December 2013.[15] Wasting no time in the new year (2014), it was announced that Whitney Peyton would be on the "Triple 6 Sinners Tour" with the remaining members of Platinum rap group Three 6 Mafia (now known as "Da Mafia 6ix"). The Tour ran from the beginning of March to the end of April 2014 with over 50+ show dates across the nation.[16] With a growing fan base, Peyton was able to then embark on her first co-headlining tour with fellow artist Cryptic Wisdom called the "illien Underdog" Tour which included several US dates and ran throughout May 2014. Doing several large headlining spot dates during the summer and fall of 2014, in the winter of 2014 Whitney Peyton hit the road again (Nov and Dec ) this time with controversial electronica group Blood on the Dance Floor (duo) on "The Reckoning" Tour which was 20 US dates. [17] Now in 2015 W.P. hasn't skipped a beat she's back at it again headlining her own shows nationally while working on new music and videos.
Early and personal life
During her teenage years while trying to catch a break in the music industry, Peyton appeared as an extra or bit parts in several films. One of the Motion Pictures was Cover starring Vivica A. Fox directed by Bill Duke in 2007 where Peyton played a small role of a roughed-up female inmate in a jail scene.[18][19][20]
Whitney Peyton is also the great-granddaughter of former Philadelphia Mayor Thomas B. Smith, who is known for a scandal surrounding his political career, being denounced from bench and charged with conspiracy to murder (according to The New York Times), during his time in office.[21][22]
