The Wieger StG-940 was an East German series of AK derivative assault rifles intended for sales after the-then reunified German forces. The StG-940 was chambered in the 5.56×45mm NATO and as the StG-942 in 5.45×39mm M74 round. The weapon was not officially adopted but tested by the Bundeswehr. It was developed during the last years of East Germany, for export but also for their special forces (the STG-943 was known to be in use with the STASI).
