William Chan Wai-ting is a Hong Kong singer and actor. In 2003, he participated in New Talent Singing Awards and won several awards. He was then signed under Emperor Entertainment Group. He began his singing career by joining a Cantopop group Sun Boy'z in 2006 and left the group in 2008 to pursue a solo career, releasing his debut solo album in the same year. Since then, he has released a total of 6 albums and involved in more than 10 movies.
Since 2013, he gradually shifted his career focus to mainland China and participated in various TV dramas and films, such as Swords of Legends (古劍奇譚), Legend of Fragrance (活色生香), The Legend of Zu (蜀山戰紀), the upcoming films The Bombing (大轟炸), and L.O.R.D: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties (爵跡).
Life and career
2003-2006 Career Beginning
In 2003, William participated in the International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship Hong Kong regional finals and won several awards. He was then signed by Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG) as a new talent and started appearing in TV shows as a host.
2006-2008 Sun Boy’z
In 2006, William joined Sun Boy’z, a Cantopop boy group created by EEG together with Steven Cheung and Dennis Mark. The trio has recorded three albums in 2006 and 2007.
2008-2013 Solo Career
The trio disbanded in 2008 and William started to pursue his solo career. In September 2008, William released his first solo album “Will Power” and was awarded the Best New Male Artist in the 2008 Hong Kong Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards Presentation.
In 2009, William released his second solo album “Warrior” and made his big screen debut in “Overheard” (竊聽風雲), a Hong Kong crime thriller film.
In 2010, he released two albums “Do You Wanna Dance” and “Heads or Tails”. He portrayed a super star in the 2010 comedy “Beauty on Duty”(美麗密令) and was cast in “Ex”(前度) and “All about Love”(得閑炒飯), a movie directed by Ann Hui.
In 2011, William continued his singing and acting career by releasing the fifth album “WOW” and casting in “Hi Fidelity”(出軌的女人).
In 2012, William released the sixth album “Pop it Up” and took the lead role in “Triad”(紮職), a Hong Kong gangster crime film.
In 2013, William was cast in “As the Light Goes Out”, a Hong Kong-Chinese disaster film as a young fireman. He has also taken a supporting role in “Golden Brother”, a film based on a popular novel published on Hong Kong local website. His appearance in both films earned him several awards including the Best Supporting Role in Macau International Film Festival and the Best Young Male Actor in China Image Film Festival in England.
2014-Present Active in Mainland China
Since 2013, William has shifted his career focus to Mainland China and started filming TV dramas “Swards of Legends” (古劍奇譚), “The Four”(少年四大名捕) and “Legend of Fragrance” (活色生香). His performance as “Lingyue”(陵越) in the “Swords of Legends” was a major breakthrough in his acting career and has become his iconic role for the audience.
In 2015, he became the lead role in “The Legend of Zu”, a TV drama based on the traditional kungfu novels. During the same year, he also participated in the filming of “The Bombing”(大轟炸) and “L.O.R.D”( 爵跡), both are major film productions that will be released in 2016.
William is currently filming “The Old Nine”, a TV drama based on popular novel series written by Mr. Xu Lei (南派三叔).
In 2016, it was confirmed that William is the male role in the movie title "I Love That Crazy Little Thing", alongside Jessica Jung.
