William McGirt (born June 21, 1979) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour.

College career

McGirt was born in Lumberton, North Carolina. He attended Wofford College and won three collegiate events, including the 2001 Southern Conference Championship, before graduating in 2001. He was the 1998 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and a 2010 inductee of the Wofford College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Professional career

McGirt turned professional in 2004 and spent several years playing on mini-tours.[1] His first break came by reaching the final stage of the 2009 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament (Q-School), allowing him to play on the Nationwide Tour in 2010. He ended 2010 34th on that tour's money list, then finished runner-up at Q-School to earn his PGA Tour card for 2011. McGirt qualified for the FedEx Cup Playoffs in his rookie season, advancing as far as the Deutsche Bank Championship and finishing 83rd in the FedEx Cup standings. He finished 141st on the 2011 PGA Tour money list. He qualified for the 2012 PGA Tour by finishing T13 in the 2011 Q-School.[2]

McGirt played in his first major, the 2012 PGA Championship; he missed the cut. He finished tied for second in the Canadian Open in 2012 and 2013. As of April 2015, William is in the top 70 in FedEx points for the year.

McGirt is sponsored by TaylorMade-Adidas, Scotty Cameron Putters, The Dow Group, and REO World.[3]
