William Halkerston Clunie Paul is an author of several thrillers and crime series who lives in Edinburgh with his wife Linda. They have two sons, William and Andrew.
Background
William was brought up in the Fife village of Kingskettle. He has an older brother Donald and a younger sister Elizabeth Anne. He attended the village primary school before going to Bell Baxter High School in Cupar. In 1973 he went to Aberdeen University where, among many other things, he met his wife Linda and graduated with an MA in English and Politics.
After university, William began a career in journalism as a trainee reporter on the North-east of Scotland's local paper, the Press and Journal. He then moved south to Edinburgh where he was a reporter on The Scotsman. In 1983 his first son Andrew was born in 1983 while he was working on his debut novel Seasons of Revenge.
In 1985 his second son, William, was born and Seasons of Revenge was published. A second novel Mummy's Boy was published the next year and others followed.
When a brand new Sunday newspaper, Scotland on Sunday, was launched in 1988 he joined as senior writer and was promoted through the ranks to Chief Reporter then News Editor then Assistant Editor and finally Executive Editor when he left in 2001. In 1999 he was temporarily seconded from SoS to be launch editor of www.scotsman.com. He is currently Head of Digital Communications at the Scottish Government.
William never stops writing and has an agent patiently waiting for him to produce that elusive best seller. He keeps his hand in at journalism by doing regular rugby match reports and is a lifelong supporter of Raith Rovers FC.
