William Rathbone II

William Rathbone II (22 May 1696 – 9 March 1746) was the founder of Rathbone Brothers, one of the United Kingdom's largest firms of wealth managers.

Career

Brought up in Gawsworth, William Rathbone II set off for Liverpool where in 1742 he established the timber business that became Rathbone Brothers.[1] He later joined the Society of Friends.[1] He died in 1746.[2]

Family

In 1722 he married first Sarah Hyde with whom he had a son, William Rathbone III,[2] and then in 1731 he married Elizabeth Shepherd Johnson.[2]
