Winnie Li

Wen-Ch'ing (Winnie) Li is a Chinese-American mathematician, a Distinguished Professor of Mathematics at Pennsylvania State University.[1] Her research interests include number theory, coding theory, automorphic forms, and spectral graph theory.

Professional career

Li did her undergraduate studies at National Taiwan University, graduating in 1970;[1][2] at NTU, she was a classmate of other notable Chinese female mathematicians Fan Chung and Sun-Yung Alice Chang.[3] She earned a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley in 1974, under the supervision of Andrew Ogg.[1][2][4] Before joining the PSU faculty in 1979, she held assistant professorships at Harvard University from 1974 to 1977, and the University of Illinois at Chicago from 1978 to 1979.[1][2] She has also been director of the National Center of Theoretical Sciences in Taiwan.[1][2]

Awards and honors

In 2010, Li was the winner of the Chern Prize, given every three years to an outstanding Chinese mathematician.[5] In 2012 she became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society.[6]
