Xavier School, Manvi, is a coeducational, English medium high school at Manvi in North Karnataka, founded by the Jesuits in 2004.

History

In 1998 five Jesuit seminarians who were about to be ordained priests discussed what would be the best work they could do as priests. They decided on working with the poorest and unreached. They chose a corner of North Karnataka[3] where there are hardly any priests, “where risks are common, and where the poorest of the poor are living.” The young Jesuits’ superior approved of their venture but advised them to find a senior Jesuit interested in joining them, who turned out to be a golden jubilarian Fr. Maxim Rasquina, S.J. After studying the needs of the area, they formed their plan: “Our first priority was to give good education (in English) to Dalits and cow-grazing children of the remote villages, with a preferential option for the girls. We strongly believe and trust that if a girl is educated a whole family is empowered.” This among many less academic priorities they envisioned for their parish.[4] And so Loyola elementary and Xavier secondary school came about.
