YASA Motors is a British manufacturer of Brushless electric motors and generators, for use in automotive and industrial applications, such as high-performance hydrogen or electric cars.[1][2][3] The company was founded in 2009 by Dr Tim Woolmer, who has stayed on as the CTO and is also the holder of a number of related motor technology patents.[4] Although initial commercial adoption was in high-performance cars, markets now include the off-road, marine, industrial and aerospace sectors.

History

YASA Motors ("YASA" stands for "Yokeless and Segmented Armature") was founded in September 2009 to commercialize an electric motor developed for the Morgan LIFEcar in 2008 by Dr. Malcolm McCulloch and Dr. Tim Woolmer, then a PhD student, at the University of Oxford.[2][4][5]

Products and applications

YASA Motors offer a range of ready-made motors as well as specialized motors for use in a number of applications, such as hybrid vehicle drivetrain[6] and electric motor solutions, power generation and hydraulics replacement systems.[7][8] Their electric motors feature very high torque and power density (up to 6.7 kW/kg)[9] and have been used in several high-performance cars like the Drive eO PP03, Jaguar C-X75, Koenigsegg Regera,[10][11][12] and a Lola Le Mans Prototype converted by Drayson Racing, which set a world electric land speed record in 2013.[13][14][15] In 2015, YASA Motors launched the P400 Series of motors in serial production for volume manufacturers.[16]
