History
Yachay Tech University is located in the core of Yachay City of Knowledge. It was planned by Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa in 2013 as one of four 'Emblematic Universities', as part of his political project The Citizens' Revolution. The university is supposed to collaborate with public and private research institutions.[4][5] The university is planned to have a 400 million dollar annual budget.[5]
The University has the same name of the City (Yachay, City of Knowledge); the name is a Kiwchua Indian word that means knowledge or learning.
