Miss Venezuela

She was supposed to represent Táchira in the 1987 Miss Venezuela national pageant, she was eventually replaced by another contestant called Rosalinda Serfaty Rosenstock. But neither Yajaira or Rosalinda represented Táchira. That year that andean state didn't have delegate in Miss Venezuela. Upon joining the pageant a year later, this time as the representative of Miranda, she won the title and was sent to Taipei, Taiwan as the representative of Venezuela for the Miss Universe pageant, where she placed among the 10 semi-finalists.[1]

Miss Globe

Later that year, she represented Venezuela in the first edition of Miss Globe International, held in Bodrum, Turkey, where she won the crown and became the first titleholder ever. She married before giving up her crown to the new Miss Globe 1989, Karina Berger.
