Yamaha DTX series

DTX electronic drum is the line of electronic-MIDI drum and percussion sets manufactured by Yamaha. The DTX Trigger System is a custom drum module which can be used to trigger sounds with acoustic drums. A modified version of the DTX kit can be found in two drumming games: MTV Drumscape and Drummania.

Currently four drum modules are produced:

DTX 400, the new "low end" model. It supports up to 9 distinct triggers, including a 3-zone snare, 3 cymbals, 3 tom pads, hihat and kick. It can emulate 10 different kits, and have a USB-MIDI port.^[1]
DTX 500, another "low end" model. It supports up to 12 distinct triggers including a 3-zone snare, 2 3-zone cymbals, dual-zone hihat and 8 single-zone inputs, including kick. It can emulate 50 different kits and has both USB and MIDI.^[2]
DTX 700, the new "mid range" model. It supports up to 11 distinct triggers including 3-zone snare, hihat, cymbals and toms. 2 inputs are single-zone including the kick. It can emulate 60 different kits and has both USB and MIDI.^[3]
DTX 900, the new "high end" model. It supports up to 15 distinct triggers including 3-zone snare, hihat, cymbals and toms. 2 inputs are single-zone including the kick. It can emulate 100 different kits and has both USB and MIDI.^[4]

The second number e.g. the '2' in DTX520k refers to the configuration of the assembled kit. Generally, a '5' or '6' indicates that the module have all possible triggers fully connected, whereas a '0' indicates that only a basic set of pads and cymbals are included.

Older kits include:

DTXplorer, a set of "low end" electronic drum, though still pricey when compared to other MIDI-capable electronic drums. It features five single-zone pads and two cymbal pads. This has been replaced by DTX400 and DTX500.
DTXpress, now in its fourth incarnation, is the mid-range, and still offers very good quality. It consists of one three-zone snare, three one-zone pads, one hi-hat pad, and two cymbal pads. This has been replaced by DTX500 and DTX700.
DTXtreme, now in its third incarnation, is the highest end DTX drum set, and aside from offering even more drum sounds (and more realistic ones, too^[5]), it is also capable of plugging in extra drum pads. Additionally, the electronic drum pads can be multi-zoned, as best to imitate a real acoustic drum. This has been replaced by DTX900.

Yamaha also announced in November 2009 the DTX MULTI-12 percussion pad set. The DTX MULTI-12 has 12 pads capable of finger, hand or stick triggering, and includes 1,277 voices for drum, percussion or melodic tone generation.

The Drummania simulation game, DTXmania, is named because it was initially designed to work with DTX drums, though it works equally well with other MIDI-capable drum sets.
