Yo Vizag is a monthly English-language lifestyle magazine owned by Shilpanjani Dantu and published from the Indian city of Visakhapatnam. Although almost all of the articles published in the magazine focus on the people and the city of Visakhapatnam, it is widely read outside the city as well. Started in 2008, Yo Vizag has officially tied up with the IPL franchise Deccan Chargers for IPL 2012.

History

Yo Vizag debuted in March 2008. It was founded by Shilpanjani Dantu who wanted to start a magazine that would feature the hidden assets of the city and showcase Vizag, the city of destiny, at its best. The true essence was to give a brand image to the city, expose its vibrant lifestyle and party life, throw light on its multi-cultural aspects and emphasize its tourism potential.

The first edition of Yo Vizag was released in March 2008 featuring Indian actress Tamannaah Bhatia on the cover page. Subsequent editions of the magazine featured several prominent film personalities and celebrities like Sayali Bhagat, Amrita Rao, Minissha Lamba, Shriya Saran, Sneha Ullal, Yalaka Venugopal Rao, Charmee, Genelia D'Souza, Mamta Mohandas, Rana Daggubati, Kajal Aggarwal and Bindu Madhavi among others.

In its earlier years, the magazine had an appreciable share of glamour in its content with the earlier editions featuring celebs on the cover page. Later, there was a paradigm shift in the editorial policies of the magazine allowing the magazine to go through a makeover. This is reflected in the covers of the later editions which are actually shot in the city featuring the populace. Such a move allowed the magazine to carve a niche for itself and gain the tag of a one of its kind magazine in the city. Yo Vizag is also being used by many multi-national corporations coming up in Visakhapatnam to lure their employees to work and live in the city, by showcasing the city through the magazine. Outlook magazine in its February 2011 edition noted Yo Vizag as the first city magazine of Visakhapatnam on whose pages the richest and most prominent people of the city hoped to get featured.[1]

Columns

Yo Vizag has gained widespread appreciation for highlighting the hitherto unknown aspects and people of the city. Some of its famous columns are listed below.

Eminent Vizagite

The column is a brief eminent and influential people hailing from the city presenting their life to the reader. It tries to focus on the inspirational aspects of the person's life.

Vizagites at Work

In contrast to the column Eminent Vizagite, this column features people who form the lowermost strata of the society. People interviewed include common street vendors, rag pickers and so forth.

Voice of Vizag

The column was started to provide the people of the city with a platform to air their views regarding various issues concerning the city. A different issue is selected each month and different people from the city are interviewed and their views sought. Opinions on subjects like 'The ban of plastics', 'Dog menace and steps to tackle it' and so forth are aired.

Party Pages

The regularly featured party section of Yo Vizag is one of its more anticipated pages covering people and parties at the most famous pubs of Visakhapatnam such as Chrome, Xtreme Sports Bar, The Park and Rosso. The section covers almost all the major parties that are thrown in these pubs and also other major parties and functions across the city.
However, in the August 2011 edition of Yo Vizag, this section was not featured as a mark of respect for the Independence Day since it is a dry day in India.

Discover Vizag

This is a regular finishing column in Yo Vizag with the purpose of projecting Visakhapatnam as a tourist destination to people who are new to the city. The column briefly describes places of touristic interest located in and around the city.

Special Editions

Tourism Edition

Yo Vizag brought out a special tourism edition in February 2010 which remained available throughout the year. The expansive edition covered tourist destinations in the districts of Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. The edition was intended to throw some light on fascinating places of religious, historical and medicinal importance which haven't been able to garner attention on a larger scale and project Visakhapatnam as a gateway to these and more destinations located in coastal Andhra Pradesh.[2]
