Yolanda Hadid (née van den Herik, previously Foster; born 11 January 1964)[1] is a Dutch-American television personality, model, and interior designer. She is best known as a star of the American reality-television show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Early life

She was born Yolanda van den Herik[2] on 11 January 1964, and grew up in Papendrecht, Netherlands, with her parents and brother, Leo. When she was seven years old, her father died in a car accident, leaving her mother to raise their two children by herself.[1]

Career

She was asked by Dutch designer Frans Molenaar to replace one of his models and go on the runway. That was when Hadid was discovered by Eileen Ford, owner of Ford Models. After she signed with Ford, she modeled in Paris, Milan, Sydney, Cape Town, Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles and Hamburg.[1] Hadid modeled for fifteen years before wanting to settle down and start a family. In 1994, Hadid moved to Los Angeles to start her family after meeting and marrying Mohamed Hadid. After their divorce in 2000, Hadid moved to Montecito with her children and ran her interior design business from home.[3]

Personal life

Hadid's first marriage was to Mohamed Hadid, a real estate developer, from 1994 until 2000.[4] The couple have three children together, Jelena "Gigi"[1] (born 23 April 1995) Bella (born 9 October 1996),[1] and Anwar (born 22 June 1999).[1]

Hadid married musician, composer and producer David Foster in Beverly Hills, California on 11 November 2011, after becoming engaged on Christmas Eve, 2010.[5]

In 2012, Hadid was diagnosed with Lyme disease, as she has stated multiple times on several episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. In December 2012, she reported that she was having a port implanted in her arm to help treat her chronic Lyme disease. In April 2013, she had the port removed.[6] In January 2015, she revealed that, as a consequence of the illness, she had "lost the ability to read, write, or even watch TV".[7]

On 1 December 2015, Foster announced she and David Foster planned to divorce.[8] After filing for divorce, Foster changed her surname back to Hadid to match that of her children.[4]
