Ysbyty’r tri Chwm is a community hospital in Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent, Wales, catering for the mental health needs of people over 65. The hospital is managed by the Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board. It was created when Pen-y-Fal Hospital, Abergavenny closed in 1996.
There is a day hospital Oak Parc and a day centre called Ash Parc, which operate Monday to Friday. Oak Parc has 10 places per day and provides care, treatment and support to people with dementia and functional mental health issues whilst Ash Parc has 14 places and provides day care, and support to individuals with a mental health problems over the age of 65. There are two inpatient wards: Cedar Parc caters mainly for people with dementia and as 13 beds. There is also Willows ward which has 7 beds for people with a mental health functioning disability. Plans are in place to possibly make the unit a fully dementia unit.
District nurses and social workers are based here as well.
A wide variety of activities are encouraged at the centre, including painting, exercise, music and gardening. There is a sensory garden onsite. A memory cafe is held on Monday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm and all are welcome.
As of 2013 the current consultant psychiatrist is Dr Vince Staples.
The hospital is just off the Heads of the Valleys road around 300 yards past B&Q on your right; the hospital in on a low site on the left.
