Yunnan Hongtu Airlines (simplified Chinese: 云南红土航空股份有限公司; traditional Chinese: 雲南紅土航空股份有限公司) is a Chinese airline operating domestic flights out of Kunming Changshui International Airport in Yunnan Province. It was founded in 2015 and will begin operations sometime in 2016 using Airbus A321 aircraft.

History

Yunnan Hongtu Airlines received preliminary approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on 26 March 2015.[1] In October 2015, the airline's livery was revealed. The red colour represents the famous red earth of Dongchuan District in Yunnan Province; in fact, Hongtu in the airline's name translates to red soil.[2]

On 22 December 2015, Yunnan Hongtu Airlines took delivery of its first aircraft, an Airbus A321 originally destined for UTair Aviation.[3] The aircraft is named Dai after the Dai people, an ethnic minority in Yunnan Province.[4] Another aircraft has yet to arrive.[5] In addition, the airline is currently awaiting its air operator's certificate from the CAAC.[3]

Corporate affairs

Yunnan Hongtu Airlines is a joint venture between Kunming Evergreen Financing (30%); local entrepreneur Tang Longcheng (20%); and five other companies, each holding 10%. The parties have invested a total of CNY600 million (USD96.6 million) in the airline.[2][3]

Destinations

Yunnan Hongtu Airlines will transport passengers and cargo from its hub Kunming Changshui International Airport to various domestic destinations,[2] possibly including Shenzhen and Chengdu.[6]
