Zach Lowe

Zach Lowe (b. 1977[1]) is an American sportswriter and blogger presently employed by ESPN to cover the NBA.

Education

Lowe is an alumnus of Greenwich (CT) High School and is a 1999 graduate of Dartmouth College.[2] He spent two years teaching at Cresskill (NJ) High School before pursuing a MA in U.S.History at William & Mary[3] and a MS in Journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Writing

For nearly four years, beginning in August 2004, Lowe worked as a crime and government reporter for his home-area Stamford Advocate; then spent two years with The American Lawyer during which time he also developed blogging skills[4] including writing for CelticsHub.Com.[5] In 2010 he started running the "Point Forward" NBA column-blog[6] on Sports Illustrated[7] and in 2012 was asked by Celtics fan Bill Simmons to join the Grantland project as an NBA analyst.[8] After the closing of Grantland, his contract was picked-up by the parent company, ESPN.

During his tenure at Grantland, Lowe developed a long-form style which combined statistical analysis, video clips, extensive use of "inside" contacts, and a wry, witty tone. He has claimed he owes his approach to the writing of Rob Neyer and John Hollinger, but attributes his foundational journalism skills to his beat-writer days.[9]

Honors

Lowe has been a member of the Basketball Analytics Panel for the MIT-Sloane Sports Analytics Conference and will be the 2016 moderator.[10]
