Zakia Zaki

Zakia Zaki (died June 6, 2007) was an Afghan female journalist. She was the director and owner of Afghan Radio Peace, which broadcast out of Jabal Saraj, Parwan province, north of the capital of Kabul, Afghanistan.

Zaki was assassinated on June 6, 2007, by gunmen in front of her 8 year old son. Zaki had apparently criticized local warlords who warned her to change her station's programming. Her murder was seen as part of a series of recent attacks against high profile Afghan women.[1]

Her killing was condemned by First Lady Laura Bush.[2]
