Zavadovskiy Island

Zavadovskiy Island (66°43′S 86°24′E / 66.717°S 86.400°E / -66.717; 86.400Coordinates: 66°43′S 86°24′E / 66.717°S 86.400°E / -66.717; 86.400) is an ice-covered island in the West Ice Shelf near Antarctica. It rises to 200 m and is located 12 miles east of Mikhaylov Island. It was discovered by the Soviet expedition of 1956 which named it for Ivan Zavadovskiy, second in command of the sloop Vostok in the Bellingshausen expedition in 1819-21.
