Zeuxine is a large genus of about 80 orchids belonging to the subfamily Orchidoideae. The members are mostly found to grow in wet grasslands.

Description

Zeuxine species are terrestrial orchids dependent on symbiotic mycorrhiza. They usually go through a period of dormancy after flowering. The flowers have two deeply divided granular pollinia and two stigma.

Distribution

Zeuxine is widespread across tropical Africa (Ghana, Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Angola, South Africa, Madagascar, etc.), Asia (China, Japan, India, Iran, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines etc.), New Guinea, Australia, and various islands in the Pacific. It is also naturalized in Brazil, the West Indies, Hawaii, and parts of the mainland United States.[1][2]
