Zhang Wenzhao (simplified Chinese: 张文钊; traditional Chinese: 張文釗; pinyin: Zhāng Wénzhāo; born 28 March 1987) is a Chinese footballer who currently plays for Shandong Luneng in the Chinese Super League.
Club career
Zhang Wenzhao started his football career with Shenzhen Kingway in 2006 after he graduated from their youth academy. In his debut season, he would find significant playing time due to his versatility in his ability to play as a left winger and left back, allowing him to play in 12 league games.[1] His ability to play on the left saw him establish himself within the Shenzhen squad the following 2007 league season and this would see him play in a further 25 league games for them.[1] However, while a firmly established player for Shenzhen throughout the 2008 league season, he was unable to aid them from a second season which saw them flirt with relegation.[2]
As an already established player, Zhang would attract interest from Changchun Yatai and would transfer to them at the beginning of the 2009 league season. On 28 March 2009, he would make his league debut for Changchun against Jiangsu Sainty in a 1-0 win.[3] As the season went on, Zhang would gradually establish himself a regular within the team; however, it wasn't until Shen Xiangfu became the club's manager the following season did he become a vital member within the team and play in four games in the 2010 AFC Champions League. While within the league, he would go on to score his first goal for the club on 7 May 2010 when he scored against Henan Construction in a 3-2 defeat.[4]
In January 2014, Zhang signed with fellow Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng. He made his debut for the club on 7 March 2014 in a 1-0 win against Harbin Yiteng.
International career
Zhang made his debut for the Chinese national team on 6 October 2011 in a 2-1 win against the United Arab Emirates.
