Obverse of the medal

The obverse of the medal depicts Great Zimbabwe in Masvingo Province with the date of Zimbabwe's independence, 18 April 1980.

Reverse of the medal

The reverse of the medal depicts a Zimbabwe bird rising from the fire.

The medal is sometimes found on its own, but it is occasionally found in a pair with the British Rhodesia Medal.
