Zinka
Zinka is a brand of sunscreen produced by the Schering-Plough Corporation, the makers of Coppertone. Originating in Southern California[1] and popular in the late 1980s,[2] the zinc oxide product comes in an array of nine colors "so that wacky youths can come to the beach as Indians on the warpath."[3] Although Zinka is traditionally associated with "colored-noses", the product does come in a clear variety.[1][4] Zinka Nosecoat offers protection from UVA/UVB rays and is resistant to all weather conditions.[5] Zinka sun care products are endorsed by dermatologists, professional athletes and outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world.[6]
History
Zinka products started in 1986 with the idea of adding color to lifeguards zinc covered noses. In just a few short months, this artsy idea grew from 2 guys to 60 employees. Zinka suncare products are made from Zinc Oxide and come in a variety of 16 brilliant colors. The company sponsors professional surfers, volleyball players, and other athletes. Upon their success, Zinka began expanding their products from just nose cover to oils, clear sunscreens, and lip balms.[6]
In the following years, the demand for bright colored Zinka products fell.[6]
