Zuarungu is a town in the Upper East Region of Ghana. This subsequently led to the movement of the seat of government into the town. The people of Zuarungu are mostly Frafra people with a small minority of workers and immigrants from nearby areas and other regions of Ghana. Zuarungu has seen little development.

The Nkrumah government established a meat factory in Zuarungu, which was a core economic benefit for the people. The factory is now closed down due to mismanagement which has resulted to the inability to sustain the factory.

Zuarungu has numerous primary and junior secondary schools. The Zuarungu Senior Secondary school is located on the former campus of an Anglican vocational school.

Annual Agricultural Shows were held here in Zuarungu where harvests and various types of farming technologies were displayed. Unfortunately, these shows ceased many years ago.

But there is an annual food bazaar called "Dinoma" meaning tasty food festival which is celebrated in Zuarungu-Moshie (a small village under Zuarungu) to showcase traditional mouth-watering dishes. Most of these dishes displayed at the festival are always at the verge of extinction as they have been neglected for a long time due to modern trends and tastes. The festival is not only a food bazaar but also displays traditional drumming and dancing with the distinctive "Gulkanatega" drums and their dancing.

The people of Zuarungu live in family unit houses built sometimes with mud, but in recent years with blocks and roofed previously with grass and sometimes now with aluminium zinc.
