École Golden Gate Middle School (GGMS) is a bilingual middle school at 330 Bruce Ave. in Winnipeg, Manitoba. GGMS is the only middle school in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division to have French immersion available. Not all students attending École Golden Gate Middle School take the French immersion track and as they choose to stick with the standard English track. The current principal of GGMS is Mr. S. Thomson and the two vice principals are Ms. T. Baydock and Mr. M. Gomes. École Golden Gate Middle School sports teams are the "Golden Gate Gators" and the mascot is a gator. Generally, students from this school passing to grade 9 attend Sturgeon Heights Collegiate. There are many programs for students to participate in, as there is also a Band Parents Council for parents/guardians of Gr.6-8 band students.

History

The first principal of Golden Gate Middle School was Bert Kroeker, in 1960. It first started out as a high school, with the western wing not built. The wing was later built and classrooms were added, bringing it to what it is now.

Music Programs

École Golden Gate Middle School has been well known for its music program, particularly band. Currently, the school's band directors are Mme. C. Martin and Mr. C.Popiel. They run both the concert band program and Mme. C. Martin runs the jazz band program. Concert band is available to all students in the school while jazz band is only available to grade 7 and 8 students that are currently in concert band. The grade 7 jazz band is called the "Groovin' Gators" and the grade 8 jazz band is called the "Swingin' Gators". More information about GGMS's band programs is at Mr. Popiel's web page.

The school recently started a choral program in the 2005-2006 school year as an extracurricular program directed by Ms. A. Russell. The choir was called "The Friday Morning Club" as they met Friday mornings. Currently, in the 2006-2007 school year the program is now offered as a course directed by Miss A. Armstrong and is called "Vocal Express". Singing With a celebrity or meeting them (Justin Bieber, p!nk, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Paramore, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift,Eminem,Rihanna,or etc...) is coming to golden gates 2012 talent show
