Édgar Antonio Méndez Ortega (born 30 April 1991), known as Méndez or simply Édgar, is a Spanish footballer who plays for Granada CF as a left winger.

Club career

Born in Arafo, Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Édgar finished his formation with Real Madrid, and made his senior debuts in the 2008–09 season with the C-team, in Tercera División. He upgraded to Segunda División B with CF Atlético Ciudad in the 2009 summer, and joined fellow league side Real Betis B for the following campaign.[1]

In July 2011 Édgar signed with UD Melilla also in the third level,[2] and scored a career-best seven goals in his only season. In 2012 he moved to UD Almería, being assigned to the reserves.[3]

On 20 July 2013 Édgar joined Andalusia neighbours Real Jaén, in a season-long loan deal.[4] On 25 August he made his debut as a professional, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2–4 away defeat against CD Numancia for the Segunda División championship.[5]

On 28 January of the following year Édgar moved to CD Tenerife in the same division, also in a temporary deal.[6] On 23 March he scored his first professional goal, netting the last of a 5–0 home routing of SD Ponferradina.[7]

In June 2014 Édgar returned to the Rojiblancos, and renewed his link with the club on 16 August, being definitely promoted to the first-team squad in La Liga.[8] He made his debut in the competition on 23 August, starting and assisting Fernando Soriano in a 1–1 home draw against RCD Espanyol.[9]

Édgar scored his first goal in the Spanish top level on 12 September, netting his side's only in a 1–1 home draw against Córdoba CF.[10] On 7 October he extended his contract with Almería, until 2018.[11]

On 1 July 2015 Édgar signed a four-year deal with neighbouring Granada CF, after suffering relegation with Almería.[12]
