Istanbul Technical University basketball team is a Turkish professional basketball club based in Istanbul. It is one of the most successful club in the history of the Turkish Basketball League, having won the league's championship 5 times. Their home arena is the ITU Ayazaga Sports Center in ITU's Maslak campus.
Some of the well-known players that have played with the club over the years are İbrahim Kutluay, Harun Erdenay, Huseyin Alp.
History
ITU basketball team was founded by former president of Istanbul Technical University Ilhami Civaoglu and ITU graduate Nami Sukal in 1953. It was participated to first Turkish Basketball league in 1966-67 season. It was lived its golden era between 1967 and 1973. During the period it won 5 of 6 championships. After the 1973, İTÜ gradually declined and once relegated to Second Level in 1977-78 season. It also played periods of 1979-1994, 1996-1998, 1999-2000 and 2001-2006. It was known as "Raks İTÜ" in 1996-97 and "Aras İTÜ" in 2003-2004 season. In 2010-11 season İTÜ once relegated to Third Level but returned to second level in 2012-13 season.
