1870 in association football

The following are the association football events of the year 1870 throughout the world.

Events

A representative match was played at the Kennington Oval, London which resulted in a 1 - 1 draw between England and Scotland. A second match between the two teams was held later on in the year on November 19 which resulted in a 2 - 1 victory to England. Despite the fact that this was recognised as an international match at the time, it is not considered a full international by FIFA because the majority of the Scotland team were London-based Scottish players.
The first "goalkeepers" and passage from "dribbling game" to "passing game" reported in matches from clubs in Sheffield and London, in particular Royal Engineers.
