The 1890 County Championship was the first officially organised running of the County Championship, and ran from 12 May to 28 August 1890. Surrey County Cricket Club, who had been proclaimed Champion County by sections of the press the previous season,[3] became the first official champions by winning 9 of their 14 matches.[4]
