The 1919 County Championship was the 26th officially organised running of the County Championship, and ran from 16 May to 1 September 1919.
With the final positions in the table being calculated by the percentage of possible points gained, Yorkshire were named champions for the tenth time.[1]
Background
During the First World War, first-class cricket had been suspended in England. Cricket during World War I was restricted to schools cricket and some exhibition matches.
County cricket was brought back in the first season following the Armistice, despite the opposition of the editor of Wisden, Sydney Pardon.[2] Matches were restricted to two days, with extended playing hours finishing at half-past seven in the evening.
Worcestershire elected not to take part in the Championship, instead playing various friendly matches against other Midlands counties. Consequently there were only fifteen teams in the Championship.
Table
One point was awarded for each win. Draws, defeats and abandonments scored no points.
