Mersin İdmanyurdu (also Mersin İdman Yurdu, Mersin İY, or MİY) Sports Club; located in Mersin, east Mediterranean coast of Turkey in 1963-1964. MİY was Turkey Amateur Champions in 1963. The 1963–64 season was the 1st season of Mersin İdmanyurdu football team in Second League, the second level division in Turkey. It was also the first season of the team in a professional league in Turkish football league system. The team also attended 1963–64 Turkish Cup (Türkiye Kupası) and was eliminated at third round.

MİY attended Turkish Second Football League in 1963–64 season as Çukurova İdmanyurdu (ÇİY) (due to sponsorship reasons). The president of the club was Mehmet Karamehmet. The season started with preparation games on August 1963 and ended on 31 May 1964 with the last round game of the second league. Head coach was İlhan Taşucu. He managed team with trainer Nazım Koka. Mostly appeared players were Alp Sümeralp and Muaammer Yapıcı (C), while top goal scorer was Hüseyin İlgin.

1963–64 league participation

The 1963–64 was the first season of the league. ÇİY was one of two clubs became professional, which were coming from regional leagues other than Ankara, İstanbul and İzmir and participated in Second League. The other team was one of MİY's rivals, Adana Demirspor. Bursaspor was also formed by merging amateur clubs of the city and accepted to league at this season. The league season started with Çukurova İdmanyurduAdana Demirspor match in Mersin on 15 September 1964 and finished on 31 May 1965. The winner team promoted to 1964–65 First League and one bottom team relegated to regional league.

Çukurova İdmanyurdu finished fifth with 10 wins and 29 goals.[3]

1963–64 Turkish Cup participation

In 1963–64, Turkish Cup (Türkiye Kupası) was played for second time with 66 teams: 18 First League teams, 13 Second League teams, 20 regional league teams and 15 amateur teams. Three elimination rounds were played in one leg elimination system (in each round preliminary rounds were played), but if the result was a draw, a second game was played at second teams home. Quarterfinals, semifinals and finals were played in two leg (round-robin) elimination system. Galatasaray won the cup for second time and became eligible for 1963–64 ECW Cup. ÇİY participated at the cup starting form 2nd preliminary round of Round 3, and eliminated in original Round 3 game. PTT was eliminated in next round, i.e. quarter-finals.[11]

Before the start of the season ÇİY was agreed with a Yugoslav manager, Dimitri Tadiç. Turkish Football Federation asked for Yugoslav federation for permission, but Yugoslavian side did not give. MİY's previous player İlhan Taşucu managed the team. Nazım Koka was trainer.
