Mersin İdmanyurdu (also Mersin İdman Yurdu, Mersin İY, or MİY) Sports Club; located in Mersin, east Mediterranean coast of Turkey in 1986–87. Mersin İdmanyurdu S.K. (MİY) football team participated in Turkish Second Football League in 1986-87 season.

1986–87 league participation

Mersin İdmanyurdu took place in Group B in Second League 1986–87 Season. League played in three groups two with 18 teams and one with 17. Bottom three teams in Group A with 17 teams and bottom four teams in groups with 18 teams relegated to Third League, whereas top teams promoted to First League at the end of the season.[1] MİY finished 11th with 9 wins and 27 goals.

MİY has played first half-season games at away grounds, due to maintenance works at Tevfik Sırrı Gür Stadium.[2]

1986–87 Turkish Cup participation

1986–87 Turkish Cup was played for the 25th season as Federasyon Kupası by 237 teams. First four elimination rounds were played in one-leg elimination system. If the result was a deuce extra time and penalty-shoot-out were used to determine the team to be promoted. Fifth and sixth rounds and finals were played in two-legs elimination system, and extra time and penalty-shoot-out were used to determine tie-break. Mersin İdmanyurdu participated in 1986–87 Turkish Cup and was eliminated at round 1 by Tarsus İdmanyurdu Erkutspor. Tarsus İY Erkutspor was eliminated at round 2. Gençlerbirliği won the Cup for the first time and was qualified for 1987–88 European Cup Winners' Cup.[8]
