1979 Gulf Cup of Nations
The 5th Gulf Cup of Nations or Arabian Gulf Cup (Arabic: كأس الخليج العربي), took place from March 23 to April 9 in Baghdad, Capital of Iraq. Originally, this tournament was scheduled in 1978 to take part in Abu Dhabi, but the Emirates withdrew from organizing the tournament. Iraq won the tournament by winning all its games and scoring 23 goals. Kuwait came second after losing its first game in the history of this tournament. Iraqi Player Hussein Saeed became top-scorer of this edition, scoring 10 goals (a record that stands till today), his teammates Hadi Ahmed and Raad Hammoudi were voted as best player and best goalkeeper of the khaleeje 5.
