The 1980 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was played from May to September, 1980. Roscommon finally reached the decider after 3 consecutive defeats in the semi-final but an experienced Kerry team defeated them in the final by a scoreline of 1-09 to 1-06, achieving a "Three In A Row" of All-Ireland titles

In 1980 the Munster football championship just contained 1 Quarter-Final & same with Semi-Final as that All Ireland Champions Kerry decided to refuse an open draw and keep Munster in the seeding system as that Kerry for a few years were winning most of there matches so they were a bye to the Munster Final of course due to by 1 sided margins every year. So the rest of the draw as follows so 2 Preliminary Round Matches were played they were contested between Clare, Limerick, Tipperary & Waterford off course the winners played the Quarter-Final and the Quarter-Final winner would play Cork who were a bye team to the Semi-Final in that year.
