The 1989 World Sportscar Championship season was the 37th season of FIA World Sportscar Championship motor racing. It featured the 1989 FIA World Sports Prototype Championship, which was open to Group C1 Sports Prototypes, Group C2 Sports Prototypes and IMSA GTP cars. The championship was contested over an eight round series which ran from 9 April to 29 October 1989.

Teams Championship points were awarded to the top 10 outright finishers in each race in the order of 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 with the following exceptions:

Group C1, Group C2 and IMSA GTP cars were all eligible to score points.

Only the best six race results could be retained by each team.[1]

FIA Cup for C2 Drivers

The FIA Cup for C2 Drivers was won jointly by Nick Adams and Fermin Velez [1] driving a Spice SE89C Ford Cosworth for Chamberlain Engineering.

Points towards the FIA Cup for C2 Drivers were awarded on the same basis as for the World Sports Prototype Championship for Drivers, but only to drivers of Group C2 cars.
