1991 Malian coup d'état

The 1991 Malian coup d'état took place on March 26, 1991 in Mali and led to the overthrow of Moussa Traoré and the establishment of the Transitional Committee for the salvation of the people of the Republic of Mali chaired by Amadou Toumani Touré which ended on 8 June 1992.

Former President Moussa Traoré was imprisoned in 1992 and was sentenced to death in 1993. However, President Alpha Oumar Konaré (who led the country from 8 June 1992 to 8 June 2002) commuted his sentence to life imprisonment and then pardoned in May 2002.
