2008 Premios Juventud

The fifth annual edition of the Premios Juventud youth awards show was held on July 17, 2008 at the BankUnited Center from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.[1]

The event, presented and broadcast live by Univision,[2] recognized the preferences of young Hispanic and Latino Americans with awards in over two dozen untraditional categories.[3] Nearly half the awards were for music, with the rest spanning other areas of Hispanic popular culture including film, sports, and fashion (but not television). Special awards were given to Pedro Fernández for Career Achievement (Trayectoria Artística) and Thalía as Premiere Diva (Premio Diva).

The ceremony was hosted by Eduardo Santamarina, Mayrín Villanueva, and the Mexican pop group RBD.

Audience

The broadcast attracted an average audience of 5.2 million viewers and was the top-rated program of the evening among adults 18-34, attracting more viewers than all of its English-language competitors, including Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, So You Think You Can Dance, Greatest American Dog, CSI, Swingtown, Last Comic Standing, Fear Itself, Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, and Hopkins.[3]
